BACKSTOCK started with a simple frustration: you could buy a cheap generic desk mat, or a $150 imported one, and almost nothing in between that was actually designed.
The desk mat is the rug of the desk, the cheapest way to restyle a whole workspace.
The gap we kept seeing.
Working from home went from a perk to the default, and the desk became the most-looked-at surface in the house. But the market split into extremes: throwaway generic mats at the bottom, upload-your-own gaming and novelty prints in the middle, and premium imports at the top that cost more than the keyboard sitting on them.
Nobody was making the obvious thing, design-led, aesthetic mats for everyday professionals, shipped locally and quickly. So we did.
The rug of the desk.
The idea that runs through everything we make: a desk mat does for a desk what a rug does for a room. It draws a zone, sets the tone, and ties the monitor, keyboard and everything else into one considered scene. For the price of a few coffees, you can restyle the whole surface, no new furniture required.
That's why the print matters. We design distinctive, aesthetic surfaces, not logo-plastered merch, so the mat earns its place as the floor of the desk rather than fading into it.

We're based in Brisbane, and being local is the edge. Designs are drawn in-house and made to a single standard: a micro-woven top for cloth-smooth tracking, a 4mm non-slip rubber base, overlocked stitched edges, water-resistant and machine washable. Built to be used, not babied.
